Dance Prop Design & Build
Where Creativity Meets Functionality—Without Breaking the Budget
Need a show-stopping prop that doesn’t stop the show crew in their tracks? That’s where I come in. I specialize in crafting custom, budget-conscious props for dance performances—designed with both visual impact and practical use in mind. Whether you’ve got a fully-formed vision or just a spark of an idea, I’ll help bring it to life with materials and construction that balance design, durability, and ease of transport for busy backstage crews.

Why We Build Props
At Skilled Development, our mission is to help individuals and organizations grow through creativity, collaboration, and hands-on problem solving. Designing and building dance props is an extension of that mission—turning bold ideas into functional art that elevates performances, supports teamwork, and sparks confidence both on stage and behind the scenes.
Each prop we create is more than a set piece—it’s a tool for storytelling, a platform for expression, and a way to make the impossible feel possible. Whether it’s a towering staircase, a spinning table, or a full-blown pirate ship, our goal is the same: to design with purpose, build with heart, and support the performers and crews who bring it all to life.
Project Highlights

12-Foot Lighted Stairway Prop
This custom-built stairway stands 12 feet tall and was engineered for both stage presence and performance utility. It features locking wheels for easy transport, integrated lighting for visual impact, and reinforced support bars strong enough for acrobatics. Its smooth mobility allowed dancers to reposition and lock the stairway seamlessly during choreography—adding dynamic movement without disrupting the flow of the performance. While it was designed to be assembled and moved by a single stage crew member, we recommend two for added ease and safety.
8-Foot Grandfather Clock Prop
Designed to make a bold statement without the bulk, this lightweight 8-foot grandfather clock features internal lighting, a fully functioning clock face, and a sleek, durable frame. Built with performance in mind, it was easy for dancers to move across stage and adjust the hands seamlessly as part of the choreography. Even better—it only required one stage crew member to set and prep. This standout piece earned a well-deserved "Proptastic" Award for its creativity and functionality.

Turning Table
This custom-built 4-foot-tall prop features a 4-foot round rotating tabletop, designed to add dynamic movement to any routine. Engineered for strength and stability, the tabletop supported dancers performing directly on top—even while in motion. Each leg included adjustable feet for precise leveling on any dance floor, and the entire unit was lightweight enough to be moved by a single crew member using a furniture dolly. This innovative and reliable design earned a well-deserved "Proptastic" Award for its standout performance and stage functionality.
Modular Pirate Ship Prop
This award-winning, show-stopping pirate ship was one of our favorite builds to date. Measuring 8 feet long by 4 feet wide, the ship was cleverly designed in two modular sections for easy transport and flexible staging. The front section featured two benches and a bottomless base, allowing dancers to move freely through choreography. The rear was multi-tiered, offering two elevated tap decks for layered performances, along with a towering 12-foot mast for dramatic flair.
Underlighting gave the ship an extra glow, while the PVC-crafted anchor and rope added authentic nautical detail. Hidden interior space allowed dancers to stay out of sight for quick costume changes mid-performance. Despite its size, the entire piece was dancer-friendly—easily maneuvered and locked into place on stage. It only required one crew member for loading, unloading, and assembly (though we recommend two for ease and safety).
This piece not only earned a "Proptastic" Award, but also stole the show at every competition—sparking conversations from judges and audiences alike.
